I first became intrigued by modeling masks when I saw the word "model" in it. "Hmm... if I use this, I will obviously look like a model, just like I always look like the lovely girl on the cover of box hair dye after I've dyed my hair." Every time, I think this, and every time, I'm disappointed. Ah well, "hope springs eternal."
As I've since learned, modeling masks are called so because they're like modeling clay... they form to your face. Always game to try the latest beautifying experiment from Korea, I ordered Anskin Cool-Ice Modeling Mask because, well, $9.00 baby! Gosh, I love Amazon. But I digress.... Simply put, this product literally changes the appearance of your face in 15 minutes. My deep, desert-living-induced pores vanished. Even my husband, who usually takes 3 days to notice my latest hair color, peered at me and said, "You look... cleaner? Fresher?" But to my ever-watchful eye that has numbered all my pores, I knew I'd found a keeper. My face looked brighter, smoother, and as fresh as if I'd gotten out of a sauna. And it felt so cool and calmed... a big change from my typical dry flush. This miracle lasted until the next morning. But then, the only real way to make enlarge pores disappear forever is to time travel back to age 3. If they tell you otherwise, they're selling something.

Here's how you use it. The modeling mask comes as a dry powder. You mix about 2 heaping tablespoons in a little cup, and add water to it. It's rather like making a powdered sugar glaze. You add a little water and keep mixing until the consistency is like sour cream, perhaps even a little runnier. If it's too thin, it will dry and not peel off easily. Too thick and it won't spread. I promise, you'll get it right after one try.

Once the powder is mixed, you can slop it on to your face. It's going to feel a bit runny, but shouldn't slide off your face. Pull your hair back so it doesn't get stuck to the mask. You can also buy a mask spatula or brush that makes the application much easier. Put it on thick, thicker than you would apply any other mask. All the thin edges dry out and are harder to remove.

After applying, you'll wait 15 to 20 minutes until the mask is dry. By dry, I mean, it's soft and doughy, but doesn't come off on your fingers when you touch it. Depending on how dry your climate is, you can leave it on for about half an hour. Just remove it before the whole mask dries hard because then you're not getting any benefits from it. In it's ideal form, this mask is soft and pliable. Its magic comes from the moisture it traps between it and your skin.

Ewww! embarrassing picture time!
To remove, start peeling it off. The middle part should peel away from your face without sticking to it. The edges do stick, but water and a wet towel will take that off. Don't wash the pieces down the drain or it will clog. It's so gross-cool how the mask pieces have modeled every.single.pore on your face!
So.Many. Pores!

When you've rinsed your face, follow with your normal skin care routine. Enjoy!
